Kirker Greer Spirits’ owned Ukiyo Japanese Gin range to launch across Gebr. Heinemann’s airport retail and distribution network, strengthening the premium Japanese spirits segment
Kirker Greer Spirits has expanded its global travel retail footprint through a strategic partnership with Gebr. Heinemann, further accelerating the international growth of its Ukiyo Japanese Gin range. The agreement reinforces the company’s commitment to bringing its award-winning portfolio to discerning travellers worldwide.
Ukiyo Blossom Gin, Ukiyo Tokyo Dry Gin and Ukiyo Yuzu Gin will be available through Gebr. Heinemann’s airport retail and distribution channels from April, marking a key milestone in Kirker Greer Spirits’ three-year strategic growth plan for the channel.
Headquartered in Hamburg, Gebr. Heinemann is one of the world’s leading travel retailers and distributors, supplying premium spirits across an extensive network of international airports and retail partners. The new agreement establishes a scalable platform for Ukiyo across the Heinemann estate, significantly amplifying the brand’s global reach.
The listing adds a differentiated Japanese craft proposition to the gin category, complementing portfolios traditionally weighted towards whisky and vodka. For Kirker Greer Spirits, alignment with a globally recognised GTR operator elevates Ukiyo’s positioning alongside established premium brands and accelerates long-term brand equity building.
Ukiyo Japanese Gin is currently delivering rapid multi-channel growth across key global markets. While the wider international gin category navigates a more challenging period, the brand continues to outperform the market trend. This sustained momentum is driven by Ukiyo’s distinctive positioning: combining a unique rice spirit base, layered with traditional gin botanicals and Japanese flavour influences, alongside award-winning packaging designed to stand out on shelf and resonate with the modern spirits consumer.
Ryan McFarland, Chief Commercial & Strategy Officer at Drinksology Kirker Greer, said:
"Partnering with Gebr. Heinemann is a major milestone in our global travel retail journey. At our core, we’re committed to working with best-in-class partners who don't just move boxes, but truly understand how to engage consumers through retail theatre and category-defining excitement.
As Ukiyo continues its growth trajectory,, launching our full gin range with Heinemann further cements the brand’s presence at the heart of the European travel retail channel. It also proves that there is appetite for innovative, independent brands to challenge the status quo on the world’s most prestigious shelves."
The Ukiyo portfolio has been developed with activation in mind. Its distinctive Japanese aesthetic and flavour stories lend themselves to immersive pop-ups, tasting bars, and seasonal showcases designed to increase dwell time, encourage trial, and drive conversion.
Manuel Schilling, Head of Buying Spirits at Gebr. Heinemann, commented:
“By listing Ukiyo Japanese Gins, we have the opportunity to lead the premium Japanese gin segment in travel retail. The brand combines authentic provenance, striking design, and activation-ready appeal, making it highly relevant for discerning international travellers seeking premium gifting and contemporary flavour experiences.”
Commercially, Ukiyo offers a premium yet accessible price point and strong gifting appeal, supporting category growth by appealing to discovery-driven, experiential travellers. For Kirker Greer Spirits, global travel retail acts as a shop window for the brand, creating a halo impact across domestic on- and off-trade markets and strengthening long-term international distribution conversations.
As Japanese spirits continue to gather momentum worldwide, the partnership underscores the growing importance of the segment within travel retail. Kirker Greer Spirits’ expansion forms part of a broader plan to increase international distribution and visibility for its premium portfolio, including Ukiyo Japanese Spirits, Born Irish Whiskey, Jawbox Gin and Kirker Irish Whiskeys, offering operators and travellers a compelling combination of innovation, quality and design-led appeal.
